Scope and Content

This collection contains photographs and 35mm slides of exceptional quality of Southeast Asia. The Bob McCauley Collection is housed in three boxes of varying sizes totaling 3.2 linear ft.

The collection arrived in good condition and was initially processed with only a container list as description. Due to a change of the content management system, further description proved to be necessary.

Box 1, Folder 1 contains images depicting Air America personnel, landscapes, street scenes, aircraft crash sites, aircraft, and Vietcong prisoners.

Folder 2 contains a clipping about John T. Grover and Benjamin F. Coleman being killed in an aircraft accident and images depicting Air America personnel, aircraft, aircraft crashes, military installations, landscapes, street scenes, woman with bound feet, Vietcong prisoners, and the Mc Cauley family.

Folder 3 contains 35mm color slides depicting landscapes, street scenes, indigenous people, Air America personnel, aircraft, and military installations.

Folder 4 contains 35mm color slides depicting landscapes, street scenes, indigenous people, Air America personnel, aircraft, and military installations.

Folder 5 contains 35mm color slides depicting landscapes, street scenes, indigenous people, and ceremonies.

Box 2, Folder 1 contains a photograph of airplanes in front of a hangar during sunset. The photograph is signed by Mc Cauley.

Biographical Sketch

Robert Alban (Bob) McCauley, 1923-2021, worked as a pilot flying fixed wing aircraft for Air America in Saigon for six years, from March 8, 1966 through June 30, 1974, when he resigned.

Abstract

Robert Alban (Bob) McCauley worked as a pilot for Air America for six years, spending a great deal of time in South Vietnam and Laos.

Series Description

The archivist kept the original organization intact without any further arrangement.

Provenance Statement

The Bob McCauley Collection was donated to the History of Aviation Archives, Special Collections and Archives Division, Eugene McDermott Library, The University of Texas at Dallas, by Bob McCauley in multiple accessions from 1987 through 2019.

35 mm slides in Folder 5 of this collection have suffered damage due to mildew, and have been placed in a separate envelope to isolate them. Please consult Special Collection's staff about viewing the items.
