Clyde F. Morehouse Collection

 Collection
Identifier: CA159-87

Scope and Content

This collection contains ephemera, log sheets, forms, standard phraseologies, memoranda, and aeronautical charts that were created and/or collected by Clyde F. Morehouse during his employment with Air America, Inc. The Clyde F. Morehouse Collection is housed in two boxes of various sizes and one flat-file folder totaling 7.1 linear ft.

The collection arrived in fair condition and was initially processed with only a container list as description. Due to a change of the content management system, further description proved to be necessary. During an assessment for an application for an NEH grant, the collection was identified for further processing and description. The curator identified three series with the first series being the Philately Series, which contains an envelope addressed to Mrs. Clyde F. Morehouse with Laotian stamps. The envelope contains season greetings from Rev. Matt J. Menger on behalf of the children of Our Lady of Hope Orphanage.

The second series is the Air America, Inc. Series, which contains an empty deadhead verification report form; a list of standard phraseology for special VFR flight at T08 landing site; a memorandum regarding designated routes for civil contractor aircraft penetrating Thai airspace including map; and an aircraft flight log sheet for the Fairchild PC-6C/H-2, tail number N355F for L54 landing site.

The third series is the Aeronautical Charts Series, which contains an overview of routes out of Pakse, Savannakhet, and Vientiane issued by the Flight Information Center (FIC) Vientiane, Thailand (VTE); distant heading guides and corresponding topographical maps from Northern Laos; Sectional Aeronautical Charts for Burma, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam; compilation of maps of the 113 Parallel, South Thailand, and Laos (maps no. 12, 13, 22, 32, 33, 42, 44, and 54 contain Morehouse’s markings); and compilation of maps from Laos and Thailand. All maps in this series include Morehouse’s markings of Lima Sites (LS).
