John Provan III Collection
Scope and Content
This collection contains narratives, clippings, ephemera, posters, book review, and moving images that were collected by John Provan III. The John Provan III Collection is housed in one half-size manuscript box totaling 0.18 linear ft.
The original collection arrived in good condition and was initially processed with only a container list as description. Due to a change of the content management system, further description proved to be necessary. More materials were donated over the course of the years, which caused the processing archivist to change the original arrangement into series. The processing archivist identified four series with the first series being the Clara Adams Series, which includes the photocopy of a narrative describing Adams’ life through images, correspondence, articles, and ephemera.
The second series is the Lighter than Air Series, which contains a newspaper clipping from Frauke Haß, Frankfurter Rundschau, "Mit Zigarettenbildchen fing der 'Zeppeliner' an, Dieter Weih ist Dauergast auf den Flohmärkten," an advertisement poster Die Original Zeppelinwurst, an exhibition poster 150 Jahre Ferdinad Graf von Zeppelin, postcards depicting a portrait of Graf Zeppelin and 40 Jahre Weltflughafen 'Rhein-Main' Frankfurt/M. 1936-1976, a decal depicting a Graf Zeppelin airship, and a U.S. Air Force Lockheed C-5 Galaxy, a label from a vineyard Mosel-Saaar-Ruwer, and a coaster from Stuttgarter Hofbräu depicting an airship. The Project "Enzykllopädie der Luftschiffe," is a call for materials to receive sketches from each Zeppelin and Schütte-Lanz airship with commemorative stamps, including examples, and listings.
The third series is the Berlin Airlift Series, which includes DVDs Berlin Airlift USAFE and A Triumpf of Spirit as well as a book review of Provan III’s book Berlin Airlift.
The fourth series is the Poster Series, which includes a promotional poster of Addison Airport Fly-Days!, posters from Horizons of Flight. Aviation Art Exhibition and Competition. Topics include B-17, the attack on Ploesti, Federal Express, and Albatros D.V.
