Biographical Sketch

Wyle “Pop” Moore was born in Whitewright, Texas on February 26, 1898. He became one of the best known early aviation figures at Dallas Love Field. Moore served as a U.S. Army Air Service Flying Instructor, barnstormer, executive pilot, commercial airline pilot, observer pilot for the U.S. Weather Bureau, and an airport traffic controller for more than twenty years with the CAA and FAA in every capacity from trainee to Tower Chief. He died in Texas on December 12, 1969.

Abstract

The collection includes biographical notes, incoming letters, letters of introduction, weather reporting sequences, short biographies of air traffic controllers, and clippings. The photographs in this collection document the history and personages of the early years of Dallas aviation.

Series Description

The archivist kept the original organization intact without any further arrangement.

The Pop Moore Collection was donated to the History of Aviation Archives, Special Collections and Archives Division, Eugene McDermott Library, The University of Texas at Dallas, by Wyle "Pop" Moore in 1963.
