Scope and Content

This collection contains, correspondence, rosters, newsletters, articles, magazines, photographs, ephemera, and memorabilia that were created and/or collected by Jon S. L. Allen. The Jon S. L. Allen Collection is housed in one half-size manuscript box, totaling 0.2 linear ft.

The collection arrived in fair condition and was initially processed with only a container list as description. Due to a change of the content management system, further description proved to be necessary. Part of the collection was removed from the History of Aviation Small Collections of the History of Aviation Archives and housed in it's own archival container. At a later point, more materials were discovered and the entire collection was reprocessed with a new arrangement.

The archivist identified six series with the first series being the Pan Am Historical Foundation Series, which includes correspondence between the foundation and Jon S. L. Allen, news releases, and an annual report.

The second series is The Ellington Navigators Association Series, which includes correspondence between Ken Johnson and Jon S. L. Allen regarding locating old classmates from the Navigator School at Ellington Air Force Base. Materials also include, press releases, rosters, and the association's newsletters.

The third series is the Correspondence Series, which contains one letter regarding Allen’s review of the book Desired Track.

The fourth series is the Publication Series, which contains articles and magazines: article "Eurasia. A History. The Sino-German Airline that pioneered Routes across China." Air Pictorial by Lennart Andersson; article An Ace for the Czar. Aviation Pioneer Boris Sergievsky Began his Flying Career in the World War I Air Battles over the Eastern Front by Allan Forsyth; article Slipping the Bonds of Earth by Jon S. L. Allen; article "The Legend of Pan Am: Part I," Greenwich; newsletter Clipper; newsletter American Air Museum News; magazine special issue Pan Am Celebrating the 45th Anniversary of US Commercial Jet Service; and a catalog Air University Press.

The fifth series is the Ephemera and Memorabilia Series, which contains a Pan Am membership card issued to Jon S. L. Allen and a certificate from the Air Force Memorial Foundation of Jon S. L. Allen being a charter sponsor.

The sixth series is the Photograph Series, which contains 8x10” b/w images. Image number 5JSLA-1-6-PB1 depicts two Boeing 737 2C0 in flight, tail number N570GB and N571G?. Image number 5JSLA-1-6-PB2 through 5JSLA-1-6-PB3 depicts the exterior and interior of the Movieland of the Air Museum.
