Scope and Content

This collection contains documents, correspondence, event publicity materials, book order forms, and catalogs collected by the Ackerman Center for Holocaust Studies in the course of its activities. The Ackerman Center for Holocaust Studies Collection is housed in one manuscript box, one archival storage box, and one oversize box (13" x 18" x 3") totaling 2.4 linear ft.

The collection arrived in good condition and was organized into three series with the first being the Arnold A. Jaffe Holocaust Collection which is further organized into four subseries: 1. Arnold A. Jaffe Holocaust Collection General Information, 2. Arnold A. Jaffe Holocaust Collection Correspondence, 3. Arnold A. Jaffe Holocaust Collection Contributions, 4. Arnold A. Jaffe Holocaust Collection Advisory Board.

Subseries 1. consists of brochures, an endowment agreement, and general historical information about the Collection.

Subseries 2. includes correspondence related to the activities and functions of the Collection.

Subseries 3. contains information about financial contributions to the Collection.

Subseries 4. houses meeting minutes, correspondence, memoranda, and information relating to the meetings of Collection's Advisory Board.

The second series is the Harry L. and Margaret K. Sebel Holocaust Symposium, and contains planning documents, programs, correspondence, and other information used in planning and holding the Symposiums.

The third series is the Holocaust Historical Books, Collections, and Exhibits and contains catalogs of books, Holocaust exhibit information, and part of an index of the Diaries of Joseph Goebbels created by Larry Sall.

Historical Sketch

The Ackerman Center for Holocaust Studies was founded at The University of Texas at Dallas by Dr. Zsuzsanna Ozsváth in 1986. The Center supports University courses on the Holocaust, genocide, and human rights. It offers lectures, events, programs, and opportunities for students.

The Ackerman Center also houses the Arnold A. Jaffe Holocaust Library Collection. The Collection was named for Arnold Jaffe, a businessman who studied the Holocaust at UTD. Mr. Jaffe earned his Masters degree, but passed away while pursuing a PhD.

From 1989 until 1994, the Center also hosted the Larry L. and Margaret A. Sibel Holocaust Symposium. A yearly event presenting reach, performances, and scholarship.

The Center supports University courses on the Holocaust, genocide, and human rights. It offers lectures, events, programs, and opportunities for students. It also houses the Arnold A.
