Scope and Content

This collection contains documents, charts, and correspondence related to scholarships, fundraising, and strategic planning at The University of Texas at Dallas. The collection arrived in good condition and was arranged by the University Archivist. Two series were identified: I. UTD Planning and Fundraising Documents and II. UTD Vision 2020.

The first series contains documents, brochures, programs and other material related to the history of The University of Texas at Dallas, lectures and endowments, fundraising efforts, and scholarship.

The scond series consists of planning documents, correspondence, memoranda, itineraries, participant lists, and draft copies of UTD Vision 2020, a long range planning exercise designed to explore ideas for the future growth of the university.

Biographical Sketch

Dr. Scherry Johnson was recruited to The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) in 1988, by UTD President Robert Rutford, to serve as the University’s Vice President of External Affairs. Dr. Johnson oversaw a number of programs at UTD including fundraising and development, creating scholarships to support new freshman at UTD, and helping organize the creation of UTD's strategic plan, UTD Vision 2020. Dr. Johnson then went on to oversee UTD's Advanced Placement Institute, and in 1999 was named Associate Dean of the School of Interdisciplinary Studies as well as Director of the Teacher Development Center. Dr. Johnson retired from the UTD in 2013.
