Maurice M. Kay, Sr. learned to fly at the Dallas Aviation School at Love Field in Dallas, Texas in the 1920s. After brief careers with Bowen and Long and Harmon Airlines, he joined American Airways (the predecessor to American Airlines) in 1934.
