J. H. (Stormy) Mangham Collection

Abstract

James Harold "Stormy" Mangham was a pioneer aviator and barnstormer born in 1907. In 1932, he purchased land in North Richland Hills, Texas to serve as a home, ranch, and private airfield. In 1954, he opened his private airfield to public use as Mangham Airport, which closed in 1986. Mangham, in addition to being a pilot, was also involved in setting motorcycle speed records. He passed away in 1974.

He was the Director of Publications for the Institute of Aeronautical Sciences, the predecessor of The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, (AIAA).
